On Saturday September 23rd 2017 at approximately 1:45 pm, my best friend, the love of my life, my wife of 39 years Barbara Jean had a heart attack in bed and died peacefully. The nursing home staff or the paramedics could not revive her.
Jean had been sick for a long time and finally went into the hospital on 9/13 with a diabetic leg and foot problem.
Her surgery on the 9/14 went well. She was back in her room at Sentara CarePlex, healing good, and just in a lot of pain. She would not be able to put any weight on that leg for a while and they were suppose show her how to put all the weight on her other leg in order to maneuver and get around.
She was transferred late Tuesday afternoon 9/19 to Sentara Nursing & Rehab Center here in Hampton. They were estimating a 2 week stay, depending on how quick she is able to recover.
Arrangements for her burial have been made and her funereal was held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Ft. Monroe in Hampton VA on Friday September 29th, 2017. The viewing will be from 11am to 12pm in the church. At 12pm Monsignor Barrett will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Jean's honor. After the service we proceeded to St. Johns Cemetery downtown Hampton.
Followed by a Reception for close friends and family at St. John's Episcopal Church Parish Hall ...provided by my daughter Jennifer's club, sorority sisters, and the church.
Obit was published Wednesday September 27th, 2017 in our local newspaper the Daily Press.
